My Veteran Friend

Today we honor our U.S. Military Veterans
I especially want to honor vets close and precious to me

My father - Rudy Edwards
My son, Shannon Wohlford

             My like-a-son, Ivan Rocourt

My Veteran Friend

When er’ I see that flag go by,
I think of you, ---my Veteran Friend.
Her streaming red flows through the sky
like your blood, ---my Veteran Friend.

Sometimes you think that no one knows
       your troubles and your fears.
But God alone, He knows it all
And we prayed for you back here.

So now you’re home, thank God for that
      And we’re so grateful too.
We think of those who through combat,
      Just didn’t make it through.

So now I say, ---my Veteran Friend,
I’m honored just to know you.
You risked it all and gave your best.
For what? ---You didn’t even know who.

May God reach down,
      blessings to send.
For me, I have to say again,
    “Thank you, ---my Veteran Friend.”

With love, Connie  ~~ 11/11/08

  2. Connie, as the daughter of a WWII veteran, patriotism was modeled before me as was respect for military and law enforcement officers. Your poem is a beautiful tribute. Thank you for sharing it.
